Connect, Explore, Reflect, Grow, Actualise
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Reflections.
I am a fully qualified and registered counsellor, providing a professional and confidential service. Before training as a counsellor, I worked for 15 years as a health professional within the NHS.
During this time, I developed a deep understanding of the connection between physical and psychological wellbeing. Taking a holistic approach to my work, I became skilled at recognizing when a patient’s mental health challenges prevented them from fully engaging in physical therapy.
Since qualifying I have completed an advanced diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and now divide my time between working for a charity that supports disadvantaged women and running my private practice from home.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain high professional standards.
Acknowledging the need for support is the first step toward change. Life can be challenging, and while we may want to share our worries and anxieties, we often hesitate to burden our loved ones. Speaking with someone who is impartial, non-judgmental, and provides a professional, supportive space can be truly transformative.
My approach is integrative, rooted in person-centred philosophy, and incorporating elements from cognitive behavioural and psychoanalytic therapies. This allows me to tailor my support to each individual, recognising that every client is unique. I work holistically, considering a person’s life stage and experiences alongside their psychosocial, physical, psychological, spiritual, and emotional well-being. With a strong understanding of the connection between physical and mental health, I am particularly aware of how physical impairments can impact emotional well-being.
I have recently completed training that led to a certificate in Working Therapeutically with Neurodivergent Clients. This has been particularly valuable in supporting individuals diagnosed later in life, helping them explore the impact of this diagnosis on their experiences.
People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Abuse
Depression
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life
Neurodiverse
I provide both short and long-term individual counselling in a comfortable, private therapy room on the first floor. Additionally, I offer ‘walk & talk therapy,’ which can be adapted to suit different physical abilities. Outdoor therapy can be especially beneficial for individuals with sensory or processing difficulties, as it often feels less intimidating—allowing clients to engage in conversation while walking side by side rather than sitting face to face. Being in nature can help soothe the mind, while movement releases endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers.
Regardless of the counselling format you choose, my aim is to provide a professional, ethical, and inclusive service in a non-judgmental space. For clients with accessibility needs, such as wheelchair users or those who rely on mobility aids, I offer remote sessions via telephone or online platforms. Home visits will also be considered. (Additional fees may apply).
The foundation of therapy is built on trust, strengthened by the ethical commitment to confidentiality. What you share in sessions remains private, with only a few exceptions related to safety. This creates a secure and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of judgment, allowing for a level of openness that may not be possible in other relationships.
The client-counsellor relationship is professional, with clear boundaries that ensure it remains focused on your well-being. Unlike friendships or personal relationships, where support is often mutual, therapy is a one-sided space where you receive dedicated, unbiased support without expectation. This structure helps maintain the focus on your needs and therapeutic goals.
While the counselling relationship is typically temporary, lasting only as long as needed to support your growth and healing, its impact can be profound and long-lasting. Many clients find that therapy not only helps them address immediate concerns but also equips them with insights and strategies that continue to shape their personal development long after sessions have ended. This unique blend of trust, empathy, professional boundaries, and a focus on your well-being creates a powerful relationship that fosters healing, self-awareness, and personal growth.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help. For clients who need reasonable adjustments, I offer a factsheet. Please email me your specific requirements so I can ensure your needs are fully met.
You can also call me on +44 7944089349 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
I work from a private room in Melbourne and offer counselling services to clients in the surrounding areas, including Kings Newton, South Derbyshire, Castle Donington, Chellaston, Weston-on-Trent, Aston-on-Trent, Swarkstone, Stanton, Ticknall, Ashby, Hartshorne, Derby, and Swadlincote. Before beginning counselling, we can arrange a free brief telephone consultation. This gives you the opportunity to discuss your concerns, explore whether we are a good fit, and decide on your preferred mode of therapy—whether by phone, online, in-person, or outdoor sessions.
Your first counselling session is an important step in your therapeutic journey. Here’s what you can typically expect:
I will introduce myself, sharing my experience and qualifications.
You will have the opportunity to talk about your background and the reasons you are seeking counselling.
Creating a sense of trust and comfort is key, so I will focus on helping you feel at ease.
I will explain how confidentiality works, including what remains private and any exceptions (such as concerns for your safety or that of others).
You can share the challenges that brought you to counselling—whether emotional, psychological, or situational.
There’s no pressure to disclose everything at once; therapy is a process, and you can move at your own pace.
I may ask open-ended questions to better understand your experiences, history, and what you hope to achieve.
Together, we can begin setting initial goals, whether specific (e.g., reducing anxiety) or broader (e.g., improving self-awareness).
I will outline how therapy works, including session frequency, therapeutic approaches, and what to expect in future sessions.
This is a good time to ask any questions you may have about the process.
It’s normal to experience a mix of emotions, from relief to uncertainty.
I am here to support you, so you are welcome to share how you feel about the process itself.
We will go over session details, including length, fees, cancellation policies, and how to reach me between sessions if necessary.
Ultimately, you decide whether you feel comfortable working with me and if we are the right fit for your needs.
